Comfortably furnished, warm (storage heaters in every room) and well equipped, Buailard is open all year. Linen is provided and electricity is by meter reading to be paid at the end of your stay. Pets by arrangement.

The spacious dining/sitting room— from where you will see for miles across the bay to Handa Island, where bird life abounds and puffins preen—is equipped with an excellent stereo, music CDs and a good collection of books, including those about all things Scottish.

• Cosy den with solid-fuel burning stove, TV, DVD/CD player
